CARS is an acronym that reminds us of what qualifies as a legal activity or expense for an ASB account.  CARS stands for Cultural, Athletic, Recreational and Social.  These categories define purpose of our club and criteria for what we can raise/spend money on.

Cultural events are defined as activities exposing our student body to cultural awareness and understanding.  This does not equate to indoctrination, rather education.

Athletic events are defined by the WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association).  Chief Joseph is an active member of this organization.

Recreational events are defined as activities that promote a healthy life-style and life-long interests.  Preferred activities connect students to our community and contribute back to our society.

Social events are defined as activities designed to teach students how to handle themselves socially while allowing them to practice appropriateness.

The single element that separates these types of activities is that they are NOT CURRICULAR.  Anything that is curricular can not be funded by ASB.  This would be considered supplanting curricular funds and is illegal.  In the event that there is an area of 'grey' in the activity that a recognized club is wanting to do, you need to work with the ASB Advisors and supervisor to ensure that there is no cross-over with curricular events.
